QUADRATIC EQUATION

Just as there are EQUATIONS OF A LINE:
Slope Intercept Form: Y = mx + b
    Where m  is the Slope or the (RISE / RUN) or (Change in Y)/(Change in X)
    and 'b' is the Y Intercept when x = 0.
OR
STANDARD FORM of a LINE:  Ax + By = C
        You can solve for 'A' when y = 0 and solve for 'B' when x = 0;
you can manipulate the equation to get it into: y = mx + b
or learn the formula definitions:  m = -(A)/B and b = C/B

 When dealing with POLYNOMIALS
You often have the equation in the form of: Ax^2 + Bx + C = 0
When 'x' = 0, the Y Intercept will be 'C'.
You solve for the other two Roots that make Y = 0 by factoring the problem.
x^2 + 7x + 12 = 0 --> (X + 3)(X + 4) = 0, so: x = -3 or -4
x^2 - x - 12 = 0 --> (X - 4)(X + 3) = 0, so: x = 4 or x = -3
x^2 + x - 12 = 0 --> (X + 4)(X - 3) - 0, so: x = -4 or x = 3

SOMETIMES (Hardly ever in 'real life'), you cannot easily find factors that solve the problem using F.O.I.L.
