Just as there are EQUATIONS OF A LINE:
Slope Intercept: Y = mx +b
Where m is the Slope or the (RISE / RUN) or (Change in Y)/(Change in X)
and 'b' is the Y Intercept when X = 0.
OR
STANDARD FORM of a LINE:
Ax + By = C
You can solve for 'A' when y = 0 and solve for 'B' when x = y
you can manilulate the equation to get it into: y = mx + b
or learn the to definitions: m = -(A)/B and b = C/B

You often have the equation: Ax^2 + Bx + C = 0

x^2 + 7x + 12 = 0 --> (X + 3)(X + 4) = 0, so x = -3 or -4
x^2 - x - 12 = 0 --> (X - 4)(X + 3) = 0, so x = 4 or x = -3
x^2 + x - 12 = 0 --> (X + 4)(X - 3) - 0, so x = -4 or x = 3
